Create guitar tabs online — free
TellMeScore is a free online guitar tab & sheet music editor. No download, no registration — click a string and start writing, right in your browser.
Everything you need to write a song
Fast number-key entry
Move the cursor with arrow keys and type fret numbers — Guitar Pro-style speed, no mouse required.
Notation + tab, together
Standard notation and tablature are rendered side by side and always stay in sync.
Instant playback
Hear what you wrote at any time with built-in audio playback and a follow-along cursor.
Lyrics mode
Attach syllables beat by beat in a dedicated lyrics mode — built for vocal songs, with full IME support.
Chord diagrams
Define a chord once and get fingering diagrams above the score plus chord names over every beat.
Print & PDF (A4)
What you see is what prints. Paginated A4 output straight from your browser's print dialog — save as PDF anytime.
How it works
Create a new score
Pick a title, tuning, time signature and key in the start wizard — or just keep the defaults.
Enter notes
Click a string, type fret numbers, move on with the arrow keys. Effects and lyrics are one click away.
Play, print, save
Check it by ear, print to A4 or PDF, and save your song as a file you own.
Your music stays yours
TellMeScore has no accounts and no cloud. Your scores are autosaved in your own browser and exported as .tmscore.json files that live on your disk. Nothing you write is ever uploaded — there is simply no server to upload it to.
Frequently asked questions
- Is it really free?
- Yes. TellMeScore runs entirely in your browser — there are no servers to pay for, so there is no paid tier, no trial, and no feature limits.
- Do I need an account?
- No. There is no sign-up at all. Open the editor and start writing.
- Where is my music stored?
- In your browser (autosaved as you type) and in .tmscore.json files you can save to and open from your own disk. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
- Does it work on mobile?
- The editor is designed for desktop keyboards — that's where the speed comes from. Viewing and playback work in mobile browsers, but for writing we recommend a computer.
- Is this a free Guitar Pro alternative?
- For writing guitar tabs in the browser, yes — TellMeScore covers the everyday tab-editing workflow (notation + tab, playback, chords, printing) with nothing to install and no account. It doesn't open Guitar Pro (.gp) files, so it's an alternative for creating tabs rather than a replacement reader.
- Can I import Guitar Pro files?
- Not yet. TellMeScore currently uses its own .tmscore.json format. Guitar Pro import is something we may explore later.
